Interest in the promise of AI has accelerated since the release of ChatGPT in 2022. Metadata practitioners have conducted many case studies using AI processes, such as machine learning (ML) and natural language processing (NLP). In addition to underscoring dramatic improvements in the speed and scale of metadata generation, these experiments demonstrate AI’s ability to identify and correct inconsistencies in metadata and reveal trends in data sets that are not obvious to researchers. However, these case studies do not systematically address ethical concerns associated with the use of AI, such as data accuracy, algorithmic bias, environmental impacts, and privacy concerns.\n At this session, the speakers will discuss ethical codes and statements of principles related to cataloging and AI, such as the Cataloguing Code of Ethics and the Program for Cooperative Cataloging’s Guiding Principles for Use of AI and Machine Learning Technologies in Cataloging and Metadata Work, and how they may be used to assess the benefits and risks of implementing AI technologies in cataloging workflows. The speakers will also guide participants through case studies and hands-on group activities with their peers to demonstrate various ways to perform this ethical analysis.\n Jessica Grzegorski, Northwestern University\n Abby Dover, Northwestern University\n\n\n\n\nMain Conference: Friday, June 5 (9:30am-2:30pm)\n\n\n\n\n\n 9:00 – 9:30\n Registration / Coffee and Breakfast snacks\n\n\n 9:30 – 10:15\n WILIUG Business meeting\n\n\n 10:15 – 10:45\n Innovative Update\n Hear the latest updates from Clarivate and get a preview of new products and enhancements coming this year, along with a look at recent development work and what’s ahead across the platform.\n Dean Cooper (Clarivate)\n\n\n 10:45 – 11:00\n Break\n\n\n 11:00 – 11:45\n Clarivate Sessions\n Support Tickets\n Description and details coming soon!\n Dean Cooper (Clarivate)\n Web Builder\n Description and details coming soon!\n Maria Laude (Clarivate)\n EDI / API setups\n Description and details coming soon!\n Mike Dicus (Clarivate)\n\n\n 11:45 – 12:45\n LunchLunch generously provided by Clarivate\n\n\n 12:45 – 1:30\n Member Sessions\n \Location:\nMilwaukee Public Library – Central Library\n814 W.
